Phased Project — Due to the need to test the cable connection, this project should be executed in two phases. If long-range cable connection does not work, we can still proceed with the temporary tripod or desk mount, accepting the cable clutter that accompanies it.
Phase 1 — Items to Order and Temporary Setup In this phase, we will temporarily mount the meeting tower on a tripod or desk. We will verify that the 35’ (but not officially recognized by Owllabs) long-range USB cable will transmit the 4K video signal when mounted on the ceiling.
Phase 2 - Items to Order and Ceiling Installation In this phase, we will move forward with the Electrician installing the tower on the ceiling and running a USB cable and power switch to the wall beside the front of the Lecture room.
Telescoping Ceiling Mount (already purchased)
Command Tab picture hanging strip - to hang extension mic (already purchased)
On/Off switch for tower power supply
[May be required] Power supply rated for in-ceiling use See Notes in Notion Electrician (or Facilities staff) will need to verify whether the power supply that comes with the meeting tower can be used safely for this in-ceiling mount.
Ceiling Mount Note — Dead spot in the video
The meeting tower cannot show video directly below it. So any student seated directly below won’t be visible. We may either want to block seating directly below, or adjust where the meeting tower is mounted on the ceiling. Meeting Tower Ceiling Mounts (Notes from 2023) Includes details on the range of webcam (2K) and extension mics.
