Tutoring Session Reporting
Writing reports is essential part of tutoring to analyze and improve the way/strategy to tutor each student.
Roles of Tutoring Session Reports
- Keep track on a progression of tutees
- Make the progression visible to instructors
- Inform instructors what kinds of issues tutees are facing.
For effective reports
- Take as many notes as possible in a tutoring session. – Do Not trust your brain.
- Ask tutees questions until tutors can find out and understand what kinds of problems tutees have been facing and what they are most struggling with. – “Have you used Mac before?” “What program do you usually use to save your documents?”
- Analyze what core issues tutees have and make suggestions if possible. – Did your tutee read and understand assignments? Did your tutee communicate with his/her instructor in class?
- Write down suggestions that have been proposed to tutees
Finally, summarize above points in reports
How to write reports
- Write a list or series of tutee’s assignment
- Write how you as a tutor were able to assist tutee.
- Make a comment to instructor if needed.
Scheduling Appointments
Weekly Appointments
Weekly appointment with tutees can be a very efficient way to have students overcome some technology hardships. However, at the same time, it is true that tutees tend to pay less attention for their own assignments/work. Instead, they tend to spend the tutoring hour understanding their assignments. To use the tutoring session efficiently, it is important to communicate with tutees and tell them to skim through their assignments to understand better or bring up questions to tutors. Or, tutors can also give advice to tutees after each session for next appointment.
